Special Inspector Courses
Technician Training (Soils, Asphalt, Concrete)

This course is an introductory course that will provide the member with the basic technician inspection skills on topics such as soils, asphalt, and concrete. Will receive Nuclear Gauge and ACI Field Certification when complete.

 

Prerequisite:  None.

ICC Soils Special Inspector

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge of soils inspection. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Soils examination to receive certification.

 

Prerequisite:  None.

Reinforced Concrete

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge of reinforced concrete inspection, including building codes, plan interpretations, and field application. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Reinforced Concrete examination to receive certification.

 

Prerequisite:  American Concrete Institute (ACI) field testing technician grade 1.

Prestressed Concrete

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge of prestressed concrete inspection. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Pre-Stressed Concrete examination to receive certification. 

 

Prerequisite:  The individual must obtain the International Code Council (ICC) Joint Reinforced Concrete Certification.

Structural Masonry

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge of structural masonry inspection, including plan reading and code classes. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Structural Masonry examination to receive certification. 

 

Prerequisite:  None.

Structural Steel & Bolting (S1)

This course will provide the member with the knowledge of structural steel and bolting inspection, including regulations, restrictions, ICC codes, and plan reading. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Structural Steel and Bolting (S1) examination to receive certification.

Prerequisite:  None.

Structural Welding (S2)

This course will provide the member with the knowledge of structural steel welding inspection. This course will prepare an individual to take the ICC Structural Welding (S2) examination to receive certification.

Prerequisite:  Must have Structural Steel and Bolting (S1) Certification.

ACI Lab Tech 1

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge involved in concrete testing which includes temperature, sampling, slump, density, yield, and air content. â€‹

​

Prerequisite:  In order to get Lab Tech 1 cert, you must obtain the following certifications:

  • Concrete Strength Testing Technician

  • Aggregate Testing Technician

ACI Lab Tech 2

This course will provide the member with more expansive knowledge of the concrete mixed design evaluation.

Prerequisite:  Must have ACI Lab Tech 1 for one full year.

CWI
Nondestructive Testing

Ultrasonic Testing Level I/II & Magnetic Particle Testing Level I/II

​

This 13-week course covers the basic principles of both test methods and provides the member with the required classroom hours for UT Level I/II (80 Hours) and MT Level I/II (24 Hours) per ASNT SNT-TC-1A.

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Effective January 1, 2017, the Certified Welding Inspector Program will begin a phased implementation of the newly published QC1:2016. This directly impacts the Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI), the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), and the Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) programs. This course will provide the member with the advanced knowledge of welding inspection to prepare the member for the CWI Welding Inspector Certification examination.

DO YOU QUALIFY?

To qualify as a Certified Welding Inspector, you must pass a vision test and have a combination of qualifying education and work experience, with supporting documentation:

MINIMUM EDUCATION

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

Bachelor or higher degree in welding engineering or welding technology - (4) years maximum substitution

Minimum of (1) years welding based work experience

Associate or higher degree in welding or non-welding related engineering technology, engineering, or a physical science - (3) years maximum substitution

Minimum of (2) years welding based work experience

Engineering/Technical courses that can be applied to Bachelor or higher degree in Welding - (2) years maximum substitution

Minimum of (3) years welding based work experience

Trade/Vocational courses - (1) year maximum substitution for successfully completed courses

Minimum of (4) years welding based work experience

High school diploma or approved high school equivalency diploma

Minimum of (5) years welding based work experience

8th grade level of schooling

Minimum of (9) years welding based work experience

Less than 8th grade

Minimum of (12) years welding based work experience

Personal Development Hours (PDH)
CWI 9 Year Renewal

The Training Trust has a certified and approved path to receive your required 80 hour Continuing Education PDHs.

Prerequisite: Valid Certified Welding Inspector certification

Introduction to Drones in Construction

This 24-hour course is provided to IUOE Local 12 members in good standing to prepare for the FAA Part 107 initial aeronautical knowledge test which must be taken at an FAA approved test center at a cost of approximately $175.00.  The course is self-paced and completed ONLINE only. The OETT does not provide the test to participants of this course.  To pass the aeronautical knowledge test, our drone curriculum will cover the following topics:

  • Applicable regulations relating to small unmanned aircraft system rating privileges, limitations, and flight operation;

  • Airspace classification and operating requirements and flight restrictions affecting small unmanned aircraft operation;

  • Aviation weather sources and effects of weather on small unmanned aircraft performance;

  • Small unmanned aircraft loading and performance;

  • Emergency procedures;

  • Crew resource management;

  • Radio communication procedures;

  • Determining the performance of small unmanned aircraft;

  • Physiological effects of drugs and alcohol;

  • Aeronautical decision-making and judgement;

  • Airport operations;

  • Maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures;

  • Operations at night.

NOTE: Reimbursement for the cost of a successful completion of the Drone-FAA Part 107, can be obtained through your Local Dispatch Hall

This course will provide special inspectors with the opportunity to renew their International Code Council (ICC) certifications.
